Storyboarding

Storyboarding is the physical representation of the plan for an animation; normally presented through quick hand drawn illustrations, an initial storyboard is similar to the layout of a comic book. By use of arrows within a panel the movement of characters and panning of the camera is made obvious. Black arrows are for character movement and white arrows for the camera. Story board artists make themselves familiar with certain terminology relevant to what they want to happen within the scenes, for example Jump Cut is a rapid, erratic change from one scene to the next, it disrupts the flow of time within the frame making an abrupt switch. Other words include level camera angle, close-up shots, dissolve, fade, reaction shot-1 and tilt.
